Bearna Ladies Club September Newsletter 2010

Inter- Club Competitions :

The month of August has been an eventful golfing month. The Ladies Challenge Cup team played in the Connacht District Final in Murvagh Golf Club against Ballina in a very exciting match. On this occasion we were the runners–up to Ballina who, at their third attempt, were now happy to be through to the All Ireland Semi-Final stage. It was very close for all the matches and all our girls played fantastic golf. Bearna beat some very strong Clubs to secure a place in this Connacht Final and the Ladies Club is extremely proud of their achievements. The Ladies Club would like to thank the players for all their hard work and also their caddies, who looked after them so well throughout the events. Well done to all involved.

The Ladies Burren team played in Tuam against Galway Bay in yet again another exciting  match We had a fantastic 3- 0 win. Keep it up girls..In this section of the draw, we also have a match against Tuam Golf Club, to be held in Galway Bay on 13th September at 3.00pm, so again your support on the day would be greatly appreciated by all those involved. The combined results of these two matches will determine whether we get through to the next round.

The Glens Trophy:   This is an 18 hole Scotch Foursomes Stableford, consisting of 2 pairs. Minimum combined handicap 19. Maximum combined 50. Age group 55 years and over. The final will take place on Wed. 6th October at Birr Golf Club. If you think you qualify (and can stand the pace ! ), enter  your name on the sheet in the Ladies locker room .

Bearna’s Hall of Fame :

Aishling Flaherty had the best nett score to win the Bentley Plate in the Connacht Girls Championship in Roscommon. The girls play 54 holes, 36 on day 1 and 18 on day 2 and while the overall winner is the girl with the best gross score, Aishling did brilliantly to win the Plate.   She had never played in a stroke competition and playing off a handicap of 28 had nett scores of 69 64 and 65 over the 54 holes on a course she had never played until a practice round .Well done Aisling.

President Dan O’Neill, Captain John Murphy, and Lady Captain Barbara O’Keeffe bought glory to the club by winning the Allianz-Irish Independent Executive Trophy qualifier held at Glasson during August. This super golfing trio won the qualifier with 83 points, with nines of 38 and 45 and now go forward to play in the K Club in September.

Club Competitions : The winner of the Ladies Club Singles Match play is Lady Captain Barbara O’Keeffe. Barbara, despite being in constant demand in her official capacity as  ILGU Rules Official and working so diligently as Lady Captain , still has time to play great golf both at home and away. Congratulations to a great golfer and representative of Bearna Golf Club.
